Schumer’s speech is deeply misleading, as it relies on media misrepresentations of the 9-11 Commission report and the inexplicably inaccurate report on pre-war intelligence from earlier this year.

Page 66 of the 9-11 report (it’s .pdf–you’ve been forewarned)–the same page with the oft-quoted denial of a “collaborative relationship” confirms the existence of the intelligence reports indicating contacts between Hussein’s government and bin Laden’s people, including the offer from Hussein to allow bin Laden asylum in Iraq. CNN reported that offer when it occurred, yet suddenly we are supposed to believe that there was no chance that the two could have sought a mutually beneficial alliance.

Don’t forget to thank Schumer for the revisionist account of history.

Carl Levin, not Schumer. Sorry. :)
Though Schumer tends toward the same kind of thing.

According to the Senate Intelligence Committee, Saddam’s regime had no contact with the group other than to possibly infiltrate it to gather intelligence. The report also shows that not only did Saddam not have a relationship with al Qaeda, he distrusted them so greatly that he even tried to capture Zarqawi.

From page 105: Postwar findings indicate that Saddam Hussein was distrustful of al Qaeda and viewed Islamic Extremists as a threat to his regime, refusing all requests from al Qaeda to provide material or operational support.

It just gets better from there.

Wow, good find, zero. And unknowable: there’s quite a bit of interesting stuff in that report, it just takes a bit of searching.
