The Power of Nightmares

I first saw this when it was released for free on the Internet, and it really had an impact on me. I’m posting this here because it’s just as relevant now as it was then, maybe even more so.

Both [the Islamists and Neoconservatives] were idealists who were born out of the failure of the liberal dream to build a better world. And both had a very similar explanation for what caused that failure. These two groups have changed the world, but not in the way that either intended. Together, they created today’Â’s nightmare vision of a secret, organized evil that threatens the world. A fantasy that politicians then found restored their power and authority in a disillusioned age. And those with the darkest fears became the most powerful.

Episode 2 (The Phantom Victory):

Episode 3 (The Shadows in the Cave):

About probabilityZero

I'm a rather boring, geeky college student. Most of my time is spent at a computer, reading a book, or sitting in (mostly uninteresting) classes. My hobbies include reading, blogging, creating and running websites, creating amateur video games, arguing incessantly on discussion forums, and buying books on amazon.com because I'm too lazy to go to the library.

I’d watch all this, but I think I’ll just take your word for it that it’s thought-provoking and deep and all.

I remember seeing this a while ago on archive.org. Good movie.

This should be shown in all schools as part of the syllabus to thwart both the new emerging neo-conservative generation and empower the victims of fear. Never mind the Darwin debate, this is where it’s at.
