Democrats advocate Iraq pullout in ’08

The New York Times reports that prominent Democratic leaders are beginning a new legislative push for withdrawal of US troops in Iraq.

In addition to setting a timetable, this bill prevents Bush from invading Iran without Congressional approval, it sets aside resources for fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, and it provides for a quickening of the pullout if progress isn’t made.

But, the Republicans will fight tooth-and-nail to stop this bill. Despite the optimism of Democratic congressmen, I really doubt this bill will get anywhere, given the very slim margin Democrats have in the senate and the kind of resistance they’re going to face from the Republicans. I hope they prove me wrong.

I'm a rather boring, geeky college student. Most of my time is spent at a computer, reading a book, or sitting in (mostly uninteresting) classes. My hobbies include reading, blogging, creating and running websites, creating amateur video games, arguing incessantly on discussion forums, and buying books on amazon.com because I'm too lazy to go to the library.
