McCain and the series of tubes

Republican John McCain went to a technology conference a while ago and decided he was against net neutrality. Claiming “When you control the pipe you should be able to profit from your investment” he essentially endorsed the use of censorship by ISPs to prevent customers from accessing competing companies’ services. In case you were wondering, his top financial contributer is AT&T.

Anyway, he also let slip that if elected he would consider appointing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to his cabinet to handle technology-related issues. This might seem promising (it’s a step up from Ted Stevens, that’s to be sure), but Ballmer is a businessman, not a tech guy, and not a very ethical one. Plus, there are his infamous temper tantrums:

Fucking Eric Schmidt is a fucking pussy. I’m going to fucking bury that guy, I have done it before, and I will do it again. I’m going to fucking kill Google.

And then there’s .

I never thought I’d say something like this under any circumstance, but I’d kinda like Dick Cheney to be part of the next administration if McCain wins. Think of it: a chair-throwing maniac vs. a shotgun-wielding super villain.

I'm a rather boring, geeky college student. Most of my time is spent at a computer, reading a book, or sitting in (mostly uninteresting) classes. My hobbies include reading, blogging, creating and running websites, creating amateur video games, arguing incessantly on discussion forums, and buying books on amazon.com because I'm too lazy to go to the library.
