I just got it today and I’m very happy with it. It is exactly what I wanted; light, small, and powerful enough to do everyday things like web surfing and email.
The Linux install on it by default (Xandros, modified to work specifically on the EEE) is a bit of a pain to work with — you have to be careful what you install and what repos you add to apt’s source list, lest you break things by installing an incompatible package — but with the help of a few tutorials I have KDE runnig (officially called “Advanced Desktop Mode” or something like that) as well as VLC and a bunch of other new applications. EDIT: I’ve since switched to Fluxbox. IMO it’s perfect for the EEE PC.
I haven’t had the chance to really test battery life, but reports say it’s around 2 hours which is plenty for me. The screen is beautiful; tiny, but a modest resolution of 1024×600. Typing is a bit hard to get used to (I mainly miss the easily-accesible end/home keys, and the small shift key has tripped me up a few times), but that’s to be expected with the small size.
Overall, I wanted a small laptop to take to school, and this was the perfect purchase.
Cool. I’ve been meaning to buy one myself. The 1000h models look nice.
