Religulous

I saw it yesterday and loved it. Not only is it hilarious, but it has an important message. I think we need a movie like this right now, when people like Sarah Palin are wearing their ignorance like a badge and evangelicals have so much influence on our government.

I went to see this movie with my parents, and my dad’s first response as we were leaving the theater was that the movie “shot all the easy people,” or just went after the extremists and didn’t interview the reasonable religious people. While it did portray at least one favorably (the vatican astronomer), this doesn’t bother me much. The movie’s purpose wasn’t really to attack the religion of everyday people. It goes after the “crazies” for a reason — the crazies are often in charge! They have a very loud voice that can overpower the voices of so-called “rational” religious people. Additionally, these regular religious people aren’t as common as you might think. Polls regularly put belief in evolution below 50% in our country (sometimes significantly lower). These idiots are much more common than we would like to think.

And, as I said above, the movie is hilarious. Really. It’s one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. I highly recommend it.

About probabilityZero

I'm a rather boring, geeky college student. Most of my time is spent at a computer, reading a book, or sitting in (mostly uninteresting) classes. My hobbies include reading, blogging, creating and running websites, creating amateur video games, arguing incessantly on discussion forums, and buying books on amazon.com because I'm too lazy to go to the library.
