Surprisingly helpful Vista tip: Shortcut keyboard combination for creating a new folder in Vista’s file explorer

Hold down ALT and type F + W + F (in that order, without the plus signs).

You can try them individually to see how this works. ALT+F opens the file menu, W opens the New submenu, and the final F creates the new folder.

It seems stupid when you first hear it, but I’ve found this to be pretty useful. I’m an impatient guy, so I like keyboard shortcuts. They let me do what I’m trying to do with a minimum of fuss — no reaching for the mouse or clicking through several menus. When I’m organizing files on my hard drive, creating a folder with a quick, easy to memorize keyboard shortcut is pretty helpful.

I'm a rather boring, geeky college student. Most of my time is spent at a computer, reading a book, or sitting in (mostly uninteresting) classes. My hobbies include reading, blogging, creating and running websites, creating amateur video games, arguing incessantly on discussion forums, and buying books on amazon.com because I'm too lazy to go to the library.
